1. Elephanta Islands and Caves
If you are also one among them who have been longing for one day trip near Mumbai, then this place must be on your list of destinations. To visit Elephanta Islands and Caves, you need to take a ferry from the Gateway of India which is a great way to start the trip.
On the island, you’ll see many ancient caves where you will spend half of the day touring these caves and enjoying the surrounding area.
Caves are full of interesting carvings and sculptures, visually appealing rock formations and the beautiful statues of Indian Gods and Lord Buddha will amaze you. One of the most noteworthy sites to visit here is the statue of Mehsamurthi with three heads that are made entirely of rock.
To reach Elephanta Island, you need to take a ferry from Gateway of India to the caves. There are enough ferry operators you can choose from with good frequency. You can enjoy the ferry ride to the caves which would take approx 45 min and on the way you can see ships anchored (oil tankers, cruises ) and if lucky you can see some of these giants been navigated inside or on their way out of the port. You would also be able to view private yachts anchored.
Once you reach the island, there is a Toy Train available which is nice and will take you towards caves. Remember to cover the place by 3:30 pm as the last ferry leaves the island at 4 pm.
After you get back to the Gateway, spend your time exploring the beach and Apollo Bunder, nearby restaurants for your dinner and admirable streets of Gateway.

5. Rajmachi Fort – Trekkers Point
If you are a trekker or fitness freak, it’s always been a dream for everyone to achieve the peak of beautiful Mountains, Forts and Hills to get that picturesque landscape view from the top. To fulfill your dream Rajmachi Fort is the best choice all the way.
Rajmachi Fort trek takes you on a tour through tranquil landscapes in the rugged hills of the Sahyadri Mountains. Fort is located in Lonavla and blessed with two twin fortresses Shriwardhan and Manaranjan. Rajmachi has a wide plateau known as Machi surrounding the two Balekillas.
You can see the beautiful Kataldhar waterfall from Shrivardhan Fort. To trek this fort you need to reach the base village Udhewadi, where you can also camp for a night trek during summer and winters.
Rajmachi fort also has many caves which trekkers mostly use during night stay. One can also come from Lonavala to Rajmachi Fort, which is a 16 km trekking distance.

Your paragliding ride will take around 15 to 20 minutes to complete. Once you’ve enjoyed paragliding, you can head out to explore the scenic caves such as Bhaja, Buddhist Caves, Bedse Caves and Karla near Kamshet. Hikers can trek up to the historic Lohagad and Visapur Fort, as well as Kondeshwar cliff, Tower Hill or Shelar. 9. Matheran – Hill Station of ViewPoints

This area is an eco-sensitive zone and the word Matheran itself means “Forest on the Forehead”.
This place will make the complete exercise of your body for a day, as Matheran needs to explore on foot. Horse rides are also available here, but the actual beauty of this place to walk and explore different points.
Matheran is blessed with almost 38 viewpoints that offer a 360-degree panoramic view of the surrounding areas. Some of the famous points are Monkey Point, Heart Point, Louisa Point, One Tree Hill Point and Echo Point among others. These points you should at least cover in a day.
To reach Matheran, you need to arrive at Neral Railway Station. From there mini trains are available(except monsoon season) which is the actual beauty of this trip. But it takes 2 hours to reach, you can save your time by catching local shared vehicles that cost around Rs.70-100. But you will reach within half an hour at Matheran entrance. Entry fee for Matheran is Rs.50 for adult visitors and Rs.25 for children. If you are going in your personal vehicle, there’s a pay and park near the entrance.
Unique rock formations are something amazing at this place to see. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy a variety of adventure sports such as rock climbing and rappelling. For a thrilling experience, I would suggest you go for a horse ride through the mud-spattered slopes of Matheran. It’s something you won’t regret.
